Black is Back: NZ's Redemption!

Room 21's comments and opinions:

All Blacks win the cup with a one point lead: Angst is over!  24 years of waiting, none of the staff or players have ever won the cup before, one fifth of the players weren't even born last time we won!  Can we win again in four years time?  Keep it up AB's!
Thunder5000 and Bob2222

80 minutes of battling to hold the cup our redemption has finally come!
Mathsboy

Finally after 24 years we showed our victory and won the trophy.  They showed what they had and the best they could to make it in first place.  The best of all - ALL BLACKS!
Smileyface

Finally after 24 years of hope and waiting the All Blacks finally win the cup after 1987!
Archi5000

Finally after 24 years of disappointment we showed who the men in black are and what they are made of.  The pressure was on as the final minutes were counting down.  Holding the golden, shiny Webb Ellis Cup meant everything to us.  Go the All Blacks!
Boo and Dotim

Finally after 24 years the All Blacks are victorious!

Backing Black
The day had come,
when we had won.
We'll do it again,
for our families and friends.
We'll carry on the tradition,
for everyone in black.
Go the All Blacks!

The All Black's hard work has paid off!

The days go by, the thrashing of Australia lead us to our ultimate rival: France in the final.

The day has come,
The All Blacks won,
After 24 years of waiting.

Piri Weepu sadly missed,
Stephen Donald got the kick.

The All Blacks celebrated with wine and champagne,
They were relieved it was the end of the game.
Peppermint, Hootingowl and Crystal1234

Now we have revenge, the French tried to win but we beat them - Go the All Blacks!
Bolt

The day has come, we won the cup.  We had the winning streak of losing no games and in the final we played our rivals, France.  France really wanted the World Cup but we beat them by one point.  Who would think France would get in the final after losing to Tonga?
Hemzular and Lightningbolt

The undefeated All Blacks won the Rugby World Cup without a loss.  The All Blacks first gave a smashing to Tonga 41 - 10 and sidestepped Japan 83 - 7, charged through France 37 - 17, whipped through Canada 79 - 15, made a fantastic run against Argentina 33 - 10, pushed away Australia 20 - 6 and scored the Webb Ellis Cup against France 8 - 7.
Our opinions: we had a great tournament this year and we have waited for this time to come for 24 years!
Electron5000 and Tech.E.123

Our champions are back,
still standing in black.
We've got the cup,
Old Richie lifted it up.
We made the top,
the celebrating will not stop.
We've beaten the lot,
and proved that we're hot!
C'mon AB's,
win it again next time please!
Speedygonzalez

We play rugby at our school.
It is fun and very cool.
All Blacks are our favourite team,
when they score our faces gleam.
They will be very proud,
when the crowd all cheer so loud.
That is why we play rugby,
it's New Zealand's policy!

Term 3 Learning by Mathsboy

This term we are preparing for Cross Country, the Year 4's will be doing their race in September. We are learning how to pace ourselves so we don't get tired and have to walk.

For P.E we are practising dribbling and shooting. We've been playing Golden Child and 3 minutes so we can practise these skills.

Extreme Trampoline

Crystal1234, Pearlgirl and PaloPossum
On the 4th of August we went to Extreme Trampoline in Onehunga. It was so much fun, it was the best activity that we've done so far this term. There were lots of trampolines and a climbing wall.

Mathsboy
We were able to go to Extreme Trampoline for free because our class raised the most money for the Rugby Cup-Athon. It was great and we bounced really high. We had two instructors named Justin and Jared and they were really good at explaining the moves. It was a magnificent experience for me!

Bella
Wow, I nearly touched the roof! We learnt all types of tricks, you name it and we probably did it. Our class was split into groups, the groups got three turns each time we learnt a new move.
For the tricks they all made funny names. At the end you had to make up a random routine and maybe sing a song.
They handed out some prizes to the winners, the prize was a free 2 hour fun time at Extreme Trampoline!
I loved trampolining!

Recount Writing Poem

This week we practised writing our unassisted recounts.

My stomach was in knots
as I picked up my pencil.
"It was time" I said,
to be quiet and sensible.

I wrote a few words
then put a full stop.
This recount writing,
will be TOP, TOP, TOP!

Maybe it's time
to add some gems.
This text will sparkle
and shine until the end.

Future Ferns Netball Competition

Year 5 Royal Oak Suns
We try our hardest to win every game because we train every week. We burn off all our energy so we can win the game.
We are all equal in our play every day. We strive for accuracy in every part of play. Every player loves to play. The positions are all fun and all make us mentally think.

Hooting Owl came 44th
Frizzle came 56th

We were exhausted until... Speedy Gonzalez saved us by feeding our hunger with delectable Afgan biscuits!

Book Week

Boo and Bluebell
From the 15th to the 19th of August was Book Week for ROPS.
Thursday: There was a show called 'Jump to it'. The show was about a girl who got sucked into a video game because she was playing it too much. The ramification of this was that she didn't do her homework.
Friday: There was a book sale, you could buy books for $2 or less!
We really enjoyed book week because our favourite subject is reading!

Term 3 Update by Tech.E123

We ended Term 2 with a pizza lunch and 2 movies and started the term with Extreme Trampolining. Year 5's recently did their Cross Country competition and the top 7 children went to zones. We found out our topic (Our World in Action), wrote our own reports, narratives for book week and more!
We also saw an awesome show called 'Jump to it' which features the book characters Finnegan from 'Finnegan and the Pirates', John from 'Holly Chips' and the farmer Palmer from Marmaduke Duck. We hope to have an awesome term.

'Jump to it!' Show

Bob2222 and Rugbydude
A girl called Claire was so obsessed with a video game that she got sucked into the screen! Oliver was Claire's friend, he helped her get out of the video game by playing four different characters from well-known stories. The show was part of book week to teach us about the joy of reading!

Mathsboy
On the 18th of August we watched a show called 'Jump to it' during book week. The book week message was to get off the screens and read a book.

Crazykid, Godzilla, Archi5000
A girl named Claire is obsessed with this obstacle game and gets sucked into the game. The obstacles were the Shimmering Stream, Mighty Mountain and the Fearsome Forest. Throughout the journey she meets four well-known story characters and once she completed the game she came back to the real world. The moral of the musical is that people should read more.

Photography and Picasa

Our topic this term is 'Express Yourself'. To immerse ourselves in this topic we have had four days during which we purely did arts-based activities! Room 21 had the opportunity to experience drama, dance, visual art and photography. On our photography day we took photos that expressed what we like and we manipulated our images using a variety of special effects in Picasa (a free photo editing programme). We then tiled our effective images using Publisher. Enjoy the media clip of our finished collages.

Metaphor

We are learning to write metaphors. We need to use metaphor and other language features in our recount and cameo writing to make it more interesting.

Here are some metaphors we have written today about life and feelings.

Buddy Blogs

We now have a list of blogs on our sidebar that belong to other classes and syndicates at ROPS. It's great to read these as well as our own class blog to see what other students at ROPS are doing, find different website links and get ideas for our own blog.
Year 5 will find the Sport at ROPS blog particularly useful as it is regularly updated with information regarding organisation of things like our winter sport programme.
The Junior, Middle and Senior ROPS blogs cover a team-wide perspective, and the individual class blogs all the fun things we do in our own little bubbles!
Please use our blog network to share and learn with others.

More photos of our creations

Support for Wainoni School

Our principal Mrs Bruce has been communicating with the principal of Wainoni school. We were emailed some photos of the earthquake damage at Wainoni school and around the area. We were devastated when we saw these images, imagine if that were our school and our classrooms! We all decided to make some cheerful messages of support for some of the children at Wainoni school in Aranui, Christchurch.
Check out the photos!

Outdoor Education

Day One: Bigfoot came to school and the year 5's did tent erecting, team building, problem solving (not maths!), mountain biking and archery. A couple of our favourites where mountain biking (because we went over ramps), archery (because we were trying to pop the balloons) and tent erecting (because we sang campfire songs after our tent was put up!). Day Two: We went to the Cascades bushwalk. We saw some native bats and huge kauri. One of the kauri trees had Phytophora and one was dead :-( Day Three: We went to Extreme Edge and we had fun on a lot of the walls. Later that day we went to the pools and had lots of fun splashing in the pools and throwing balls. By Thunder5000, Sport3000, Strawberrygirl and Sprinkle (Panthers Reading Group)

Slideshow of Christchurch earthquake images

Provided by Bella.

Bella's Information about the Christchurch Earthquake

Did you know that more than 1,000 people have been rescued! All of those people are alive today, some of them have been badly damaged themselves but at least they are alive. But sadly more than 400 are dead, most of the people that are alive have a lot of broken bones. The Chistchurch Earthquake is one of the deadliest earthquakes in New Zealand!

Kauri Tree Dieback

We want to protect and preserve our native Kauri trees so that they don't die away. They are important to New Zealand because their represent part of our culture and they are a vital part of our bushes and forests. Kauri trees like to grow in a warm climate and are only found in the North Island from Tauranga to Cape Reinga.

When people visit our native forests and bush they must clean their shoes because there may be soil in the treads that carries Phytophthora Taxon Agathis (PTA) or Kauri Dieback. Phytophthora means plant destroyer. The sad thing about this fungi-like organism is that it only kills Kauri trees!

Welcome to Room 21 2011

This year, my goal is to give the responsibility of our blog maintenance to the room 21 students. I hope this blog will be a place where students can share their learning and experiences at school with their families and friends. Our blog will also be a place where we try new things and reflect on everything to do in our lives at school.
Please visit this site regularly and become a follower so you can comment on the world of room 21!
